Don't Bail Yet, Birds Fans
as irritated as i have been about the performance of our philadelphia eagles these past few weeks, i'd like to take a second to talk some members of eagles nation off the ledge (so to speak). now is not the time to be jumping off the bandwagon. most of this is taken from an email exchange i had today, but i think it's probably applies to many people out there...
i don't think it's time to jump off the bandwagon. call me an optimist, but i think the fat guy deserves the benefit of the doubt here. even on personnel matters, his track record is as good as anyone in the nfl.
- every analysis i've seen on draft record indicates the birds are top 5 at worst and are usually top 2.
- has andy ever been wrong when he let someone leave via free agency? derrick burgess is the first guy that has left and been productive, and the reason the birds let him go was fragility not production.
- the year that the birds drafted lito, sheldon, and lewis, everyone went apesh*t on how bad a draft that was. even in the second year, those guys were viewed as busts. i don't think anyone would say so now. yes, they're not having a great season right now, but i view that as a problem with the d-line more than a problem with the secondary.
the best time to make drastic changes is not as a direct reaction to negative events. those instances are usually the worst times to be making drastic changes as there are too many emotions involved to be making good decisions. i trust that andy has a plan. i may not agree with it, and who knows, maybe this time the plan will fail miserably, but i also give andy the benefit of the doubt on personnel matters. history has shown that he is more than competent in that area. in fact, if i had my druthers, i'd rather have andy become GM and hire a head coach than see him give up his personnel decision making duties.

I am offended that I was not on this email exchange.
Horribly offended.
mea culpa, i didn't mean to offend.
didn't know you were one of the ones on the ledge i had to talk down :)
I've been on the ledge (or at least the ledge of the ledge) since the last game at the Vet.
i don't know what you're talking about. there was no last game at the vet.
You are, of course, correct.
