Gocong to Play DE?
this is the first i've heard of it, but it's not that surprising i guess since kearse's health is a question. apparently, the birds are considering moving gocong to DE and he's in limbo between SAM and DE. (check out "one on one with gocong" in the multimedia section of philadelphiaeagles.com)
somewhat concerning for two reasons:
- gocong looks considerably smaller than he did last year (he was 265-270), so it looks like he slimmed down to play LB
- if spikes is slated for the weak-side, then gaither likely moves inside to challenge trotter and we're left with either another year of the invisible man at SAM or the unknown "tank" daniels

anyone else notice the Phils are already in trouble? You cannot ask for more from your starters, but they have 0 bullpen. 0. Inexcusable to watch that turd Gordon blow a 2-0 lead with two pathetic pitches. They are 75% solid but will not win 75 games without vastly improved pen. It ain't Charlie's fault, it's asleep at the wheel Gillick.
Bumble
Bumble I don't necessarilly concur with your assessment...at least all of it....I practically threw my remote at the TV with that loss last night....2 great outings by Myers and Hamels....and Charlie almost out thunk himself by leaving Hamels in too long and luckilly he got out of a late innning jam..just like Myers the day before....
okay, Victorino absolutely doesn't steal third in the 8th....man on second and one out and he kills the potential winning run, which it turned out to be. You don't steal that base unless you go in standing....then, the old Howard slow on the bath paths trick, gets thrown out at home and Bill Dancy wasn't even third base coach....I guess everyone that said Howard in front of Utley being too slow was right. 2 men thrown at on the bases in one inning is piss poor base running....you have 2 outfielders that are mostly outs (Rowand and Burrell) is not good either....and the bullpen is garbage (Lord knows Madsen may already be spooked), a closer that doesn't close games, strike fear, or bring confidence and you have some early season moves that may need to be made. Before we have an April three-peat....that game had to be won yesterday and the Phillies beat themselves!!!
0-3, soon to be 1-8 with a trip to Miami and NY. Season over in April...again!
1. They cannot hit in the clutch. Any pressure and the big guns all fold with wimpy pop flies or called third strikes.
2. They strike out way too much.
3. Their park is a home run hitters dream, yet they aren't hitting any.
4. Their pen is awful and cannot be trusted
5. They are stupid on the bases. The third base coach should be fired immediately.
Let's face facts, this team isn't good, let alone good enough. Utley, Rollins, and Victorino can play and be counted on every day. Catcher is by committee, 3B is awful, LF and CF are awful, only 2 P are OK, Howard is a terrible defensive 1B who strikes out way too much and cannot run yet tries to do it. Not much to get excited about.
Oh well, at least this thing will be over in April and I can get my nights back.
Bumble
Oh boy, Bumble...
Hopefully Donovan doesn't throw his first pass of the season into the ground. If he does you'll pronounce the Eagles' season over also. Wow is this a silly town.
Jet fan
fair point Jet fan. My point is they won't get started again and that will kill them when they're clawing and scratching at year end.
I am angry at Gillick for an awful off season. He failed to strengthen his bull pen, failed to move problems, and failed to reduce strike outs in a free swinging line up. This ain't Charlie. he'll take the fall, but it's not him.
Season over is my eaggerated way of saying they need to rip off 3 of the next 4 or else.
Bumble
Jet fan, un-lucky for us we can't turn to another professional team when times are tough....Giants suck, I'm a Jet fan....Mets suck, I like the Yanks anyway....Rangers suck....hell, I like the Isles and the Devils so who cares? Knicks suck, hell, I like Starlight Express and Cats. We've suffered through more crap and incompetence than all your friggin years of struggle combined...so zip it.
I got 2 words...Michael Dolan.
