Clarkie Jr. Must Go!

had to sneak this in despite my sabbatical:

- flyers trade calder for something or other. important quote here is:

Holmgren was at a loss to explain why Calder did not work out for the Flyers, who traded Michal Handzus to Chicago to get him last summer.

"From a positional standpoint, we thought [Calder] was a better fit, he was a little younger and we thought he would be a younger guy who could grow with our group of young guys that we had," Holmgren said.

translation - "we have no idea why he didn't turn into a superstar like we expected. when you trade a hard-working middling kind of player like handzus for an enigmatic but talented middling kind of player like calder and the talented guy doesn't take that as the impetus to achieve the entirety of his unrealized potential, it's quite baffling."

- flyers trade for an old goalie who is no better than the goalies already on the roster. what, john vanbiesbrouck wasn't available in trade?!

it's like clarkie never left. bunch of drunk yahoos.

This is a bad time to be a Flyer fan. As frustrated as we get sometimes with the thing the Eagles do, I think fundamentally we all believe the front office does know how to build a winning team in today's NFL. With the Flyers, I have no faith that they have any clue what it takes to win.

It's amazing when you see how some of these "professional" sports teams decide to run their franchises. I can't help but think, that I could at least be as good or better.

See the Royals...Gil Meche for $55mn over 5 years???? Unreal!

The Flyers have been dreadful this season. It's a complete and utter sham...however, I wouldn't necessarilly call Biron old...he's 29 and has a lot of gas left in the tank at that age...plus they get to test him for 2-3 months....who's kidding who, we are going nowhere with our present goaltenders and I know our D is dreadful, but please.

Saw the loss to PIT on Sunday. They didn't play an awful game, but a couple mistakes just killed them. Biron looked OK in net. Crosby's shoot out goal was just incredible. Took me like 3 replays to see the slight wrist flick. Just wow.

Scottie Upshall is going to be an awesome NHL talent. Martin Biron is an upgrade in skill and attitude at goal. That being said, Clarke Jr is still makimg bad calls. He learned from Clarke, whom the game past by a couple years ago, so why does Ol' man "Parkinsons on it's way" Snider not get a coach in there that understands the new game? With the way Holmgren has been going, I bet the trade away Upshall, and don't sign Biron. Idiots. Pure dead brain idiots that I'd love to take hunting.

It's not a deep FA market, but a few things bother me. The Pats are clearly upset with their deficiencies of the past year and are making some nice upgrades. the Birds seem content to roll a gimpy Trot, an OK Gaither, and a guy who never played LB before in Gocong out vs. getting after Briggs or Thomas. Banner has been smug and caustic in reference to certain player defections such as Garcia. The arrogance continues. I generally support this team's strategy, but just once I'd like to see them get a glamor guy. The year they did (Owens, Kearse), the went to the big one.

They are just so dogmatic and content to hang around 10-6. I want that push to kick up to the next level. And they are about to lose Stallworth to New England. Grrrrr.

Bumble, hold on there big fella. Don't get upset just yet. We now know the Eagles approach FA with guarded optomism and are set just to get some role players, which I honestly am fine with...this isn't a team in flux....they know they need to upgrade certain positions. FA realistically just started and would you be bucking up for the stiffs that just signed?....Briggs is under contract, isn't he? or a franchise player? Porter was a 3-4 rushing end...it's not like Ray Lewis or a ball hawk like Nik Barnett from the Pack is a FA....I think they know what they are doing and are going to bide their time, know what they want and target the pieces and build through the draft...I am fine with that now. At least I know what to expect. The draft is where you should start getting juiced for, expect some signings here or there and then that....by the way, they targeted Mikell and Thomas and got that done...they are key players on this team....I am just convinced that FA is a total crapshoot and not essential to turning your team around, it helps to add pieces....you build through the draft and team stability. Which they do.

Drexel got hosed by the NCAA tournament selection committee. The world really loves this town.

I am sick of the Drexel got screwed talk. They lost 4 times to the top two teams in their conference and they bowed out in the semis of their conference tourney. They beat some good teams on the road, but they were only average in an average conference. They got exactly what they deserved. Now Syracuse, West Virginia, teams that play a tough schedule night in and night out have a major beef with the Stanfords and Arkansas of the world, but no sir, Drexel does not have a leg to stand on. Nice RPI, but they lost in conference when it counted. Even a split with VCU and ODU would've gotten it done, but they went 0-4. Tough to say they belong.

Phoey. They lost in the semis to VCU who won it all. Not like they lost to the team that came in second. (note: I don't follow college b-ball much) I thought the RPI thing was what the selection process was supposed to be based on?

Now to the good stuff...is anyone bent that Fowler is not here? I am not....I looked it up and saw that Kevin Curtis put up some decent stats with St. Louis....he's not a stud #1, but I think he fits in well with the Eagles plans....I think that I want them to sign him. We need to beef up the LB corps....and I heard there is interest in Mike Doss. Draft is about a month and a half away!!

I really like the Curtis siging....and I want them to sign Ron Dayne who is a legend in my neck of the woods....stud RB at 275 in high school and perhaps the best shot putter in state history....if they do that, maybe another defensive signing (el gordo DT?), I would be fine....then draft heavy on defense in the draft...LBs, DEs, DBs (probably first round), or maybe even that stud Miami TE, I would be fine....we are going to get lots of wins this year, baby...oh yeah, Donovan needs to get healthy, too...yuck

I think re-signing Buck was a mistake. His knees are just waiting for a strong breeze to blow out again. I like the new DT though. As long as his vision is ok, then we might have a really good pass rush this year. So who do we get rid of? Also, what do you think are the chances of the Eagles drafting Posluszny?

Truck driver should go-just not a play maker. Nice guy, but completely replaceable.

I too dislike the Buck signing only if they think they're done. If they grab another guy in the draft, then I'm happy, but scratch that because they should pick nothing in the draft but defensive players.

Bumble, isn't it a little blasphemous stating to cut Truck Driver....because you are Truck Driver....so you are saying cut yourself?

anyone else starting to feel like the 2007 Phils will be the New Coke of the city-lots of hype, sweet taste at times, but ultimately a crappy product? Haven't seen a heckuva lot to be impressed with thus far.
