Tuesday Links

- skip bayless writes his me-o book review. i haven't read the book, but i strongly suspect that skip's article is more entertaining. skip agrees with me that there is no way that me-o is going to be successful in dallas. i can't see a honeymoon period happening there: a) me-o couldn't get along with jeff garcia and donovan mcnabb, no chance in heck that he's going to get along with drew bledsoe, b) bill parcells checked out years ago, if parcells couldn't take the bs that comes with antonio bryant, there's no way in heck that he's going to handle volume of crap that comes from me-o, and c) if me-0 was focused on the cowboys and fitting in, he wouldn't have missed the mini-camps and he wouldn't be out there making a fuss about his book (causing a distraction to his team). no sir, i just don't see it happening.

i know many eagles fans are concerned about how good the division is supposed to be, but not me. if the eagles just take care of business and focus on being team again, they'll be fine. the cowboys are going to implode (or parcells is going to quit), the redskins are a rotisserie team of mismatched parts with no QB, and the giants have a QB with no guts and a sour disposition. of those teams, i am most concerned about the giants because their defense is going to be top notch, but i think the offense is highly overrated and full of prima donnas.

- you know you're starting to make in-roads to becoming mainstream when "dyed in the wool" boxing writers like bernard fernandez are writing about UFC. i watched UFC 1-5 with great interest, but UFC sort of fell off the radar and for a long time i thought they went out of business. little did i know that there was a whole "mixed martial arts" sub-culture thriving underground. i watched some of this show on spike called "ultimate fighter", and i caught the bug again. it's pretty damn entertaining to watch and seems like it hasn't been politicized/corrupted yet (like boxing).

- looks like there's a pretty good chance that all draft picks will be signed in time for the start of training camp. only "the thing" is left to sign now that winston justice signed yesterday. just keep the momentum going. keep everything trending positive, big red and joe.

I seriously think I need to tone down my expectations for the Eagles as I see them right back to the top with a healthy 5. I must be delusional since no one else seems to agree with me. I'd be upset if they only go 10-6.

Saw the last UFC over at Dirty's and enjoyed it. 1st one I'd seen in 4 or 5 years I think.

I'm thinking 9-7. MAYBE. I just think the team isn't going to be as coherant as you'd like to see. This is a rebuild year.

Donnie will be back, D is better, but O has ways to go before they get back that swagger....

i'm delusional as well. i see no worse than 10-6. i do think going better than 11-5 is going to be tough because of how the schedule lays out, but i see them going 6-2 or 7-1 in the first half.

it's easy to forget just how good mcnabb can be. they guy can single handedly win games. we've seen it over and over, and i'm counting on seeing again now that he's healthy.

Totally agree. Maybe I should start listening to WIP. That'd sure get me ready to jump off the Ben Franklin bridge pretty quick.

I think the thing to watch this year is a Moats/Westbrook back field (at the same time) behind an improved o-line. Talk about matchup problems. People keep harping on our WR "problems" because they keep overlooking the fact that our best WR lines up behind 5. LJ needs to step his game up though and stop dropping balls.

PFT's reporting Welbourn's retirement was due to a pending suspension for steroids - again. Shame we let him walk.

Welbourn had talent, but he ended up being a jerkoff in the locker room, which is why the Eagle's didn't try hard to keep him. (of course it all could have been due to said steroids as well)

i loved welbourn when he was an eagle because he always played his best against that fat f*ck warren sapp.

my favorite welbourn moment was when he did a full wind up and tried to kick sapp. he missed of course, but it was high comedy.

Pete, the UFC has made a lot (and I mean a lot) of changes and inroads towards becoming a mainstream sport. There is also the IFL on Comcast SportsNet, which is a "team bases" MMA competition. The level of fighters is not as high as TUF, but it's gettign some exposure.

By the way, next season of TUF (which is currently in production) will highlight lightweight fighters who have fought in the UFC but, for whatever reason, did not succeed. I know a few of the guys on the show, and it should have the best group of talent thus far.
