Preseason Game #1

The first 3 rules in preseason football is that this doesn't count. Especially vs. a team that they're going to play again in September. So any type of analysis that we do is worthless. That said, here's my worthless analysis:

1) Kolb looked OK. There were a couple decisions/plays that he could have done better with, but overall his play didn't cause me any concern.

2) Vick looked very, very good. Nice reads, good throws, quick feet. He looks like a starting QB.

3) Starting defense looked good, but tough to tell whether it was them looking good or JAC looking bad.

4) I liked the Cooper kid though he did end up dropping a ball later in the first half.

Kolb had a few he threw in traffic, but a few in coverage that were impressive. Celek has to catch that TD.

Didn't like the penalties. Bad sign that slop is back.

First D was OK, depth is obviously a problem as their second and third team secondary looked pretty lost. Could be first game jitters.

Kickoff coverage was awful. Another recurring theme from last year.

I thought first O looked very good. Kolb hit the speed demons in stride and whoosh!

I actually thought Vick looked worse as the game went on. he went back to a run first guy and made 2 terrible turnovers being careless and running around. he looks fast, but he has a way to go to be an NFL QB.

Kafka looks like he has some tools.

O line surprised me. Still can't run block, but they held up well.

Akers is money 35 and in.

I like the 2 quick white WR.

depth at D is a problem. 1st line looks great (I say that because in pre-season the Eagles are the most vanilla team possible), but what about after the 2nd or 3rd injury?
Kolb was impressive. I think Celek missed those 2 passes because he wasn't used to them being passed lightly and right in front of him. He'll come around. Cooper has a real future. And no, Vick is not a starting QB. He looked OK against a bad 2nd string D. He definitely started to get jittery as he played on.
Special teams REALLY stink right now (with the exception of Akers), and that really worries me. We can't give teams a short field all year.

Celek is Kolb's best friend. i think their families vacation and stuff. Celek is a stud and I expect to see him catch as many if not more balls than last year. Hence I am keeping him in my keeper league.

I thought second team O line run blocked better. Could be a function of facing 2nd team DL, but they got a decent push.

red zone=suck
undisciplined penalties=suck
O line=suck
defense=suck

That was not a good display of football. i hope we are in for more than that this year, but they got bush whacked by that team.

There are a lot of ways to take that game last night-Jackson got hurt, they never show anything in the pre season, they had a lot of injuries. I agree all can have a case made, but what I learned last night is thisL They are at best an average NFL team and more than likely a below average team.

Kolb was bad but I won't lay that on him. Aside from a desperation heave into traffic, he was fine. Maclin absolutely sucked and showed he's ineffective when Jackson isn't there to draw double coverage and the O line gave zero time.

The O line is terrible. And I'm getting sick of this myth that Juan Castillo is a good coach. It's false. Just because a guy puts in a lot of hours doesn't make him goood. His teams have never been effective run blockers (as evident by their inability to gain a yard on 3rd and short), but now they have no clue how to blitz protect either. Stacey Andrews is going to get someone hurt. Peters is going to take 20 yards in false starts every week, Justice plays really soft, and they have no center.

Their free agent pick ups the last few years have been complete busts. Peters is slow and undisciplined, ANdrews is awful, Tapp gives an effort that a lazy high school sophomore would give, and Sims is making it obvious why Detroit bailed-he doesn't do anything special. The lack of veteran leadership is evident. No one makes a big play or bucks up when the going gets tough.

The philosophy of drafting 225 pound DL is not working. they get no pressure and they get ansolutely overwhelmed in the rush game. Good God that second team D looked like JV, walking around and clueless.

Their special teams coach should be fired today. All of their units are awful. They don't hustle, they get out of lanes, and they tackle poorly.

Reid is just not a good play caller. The other team always knows exactly what is coming...a pass.

I was thinking 8-8 this year but I am downgrading. Not really upset about it as I expected a reload year, but that was one of the worst teams in the league that kicked their ass for nearly 3 quarters, so imagine what the packers, Cowboys, Saints, Pats, Colts, Falcons, etc. will do to them.

That's a lot of angst for a pre-season game.

My biggest concern is O line. They just don't have much talent and are in big trouble there. A close second is undisciplined play, notably false starts, stupid penalties, and uninspired special teams play. I have seen both things all pre season and am not optimistic things will change by September 12th.

Bumble

And lets not play the "it's only pre season" card and blow it off because these core things are season breakers and also fundamental things that can be extremely difficult to fix.

If the business is viable were it not for the debts or the pressure from the creditors then there is a great chance of the business being sold off as a pre-pack subject to terms and conditions which you will be advised.
