Phillies Playoff Starters (Knock on Wood)
not to jinx the streaking phils or anything, but one of the things i've been thinking about is who cholly is going to have in his playoff rotation. does he take the "safe" route and go with experience or does he take a shot at hitting a home run and go with his most talented guys? does he go with a four man rotation or does he drop down to a three man rotation and bolster his bullpen?

Six of eight scenarios with Leiber on top? Pete, where have you been this season. Myers takes the next important game (either the "play-in" or first playoff game). Hammels goes second unless the Phillies really want him to start at home (I wouldn't bother with the precaution). Moyer will get the third start, particularly in the second round against the left-handed Mets. Leiber? Are you frigging kidding me? Strictly game #4. Expect to see Wolf out of the pen.

calm down, big fella. i put them in order of their nominal status coming into the season rather than in the order we'd expect to see them.
for what it's worth, the way the schedule lays out, it will be hamels' turn in the rotation for the first game of the playoffs.
btw - when i started writing the poll, i had myers first but thought that it might give an indication of what my opinion was so i changed to what you see now.
The Phillies have made no secret of their desire to use Myers in the next big game. They fiddled with the rotation last week to make sure Brett was ready to go against the fish on the last day of the season (if necessary). Assuming we've clinched, they'll pitch Brito or someone like him, and save Myers for the first playoff game. Hamels will pitch the game after.
Sorry to sound worked up. I'm not, but the poll struck me as oddly unreasonable coming for someone like you. My first impression was that you were poking some fun, as in "I wonder who will start for the Eagles in their first blayoff game?" and then listing Garcia and Heather's Boy before McNabb as if it were a serious choice.

I just want the playoffs. I don't give a hairy monkey nipple if Paul Abbot, Chad Ogea, David West, and Pat Combs come back and start the games, just as long as we get there!
Seriously though...Hamels, Myers, Moyer, Lieber are my picks in that order if possible.
Don't worry about that rotation guys, won't be necessary. How do you pound so many hits yet score so few runs? Tonight was agony. Gadzooks Burrell should never play another snap as a Phillie.

Fantastic. As soon as people started believing in the Phillies they fall apart again. I hate this team and I will until they actually MAKE the playoffs.
