Game 12 Thoughts

sorry for the lateness of this, getting bombed at work.

last night was so bad it was compelling -- like watching a car accident or when that girl forgot the words to the national anthem at the trailblazers game. the eagles B team offense was simply overwhelmed. we see stuff like that happen all the time in the preseason when one team leaves their starters in and the other team starts subbing, but we've never seen it in a game that counts.

i can't remember a time when the eagles played with less emotion. maybe the last few games of the ray rhodes era, but even then there were some proud players playing pretty hard (troy, young dawkins). there wasn't a single eagles player that had a good game, or even played with fire for that matter. is that an indicator that andy has lost this team? i hope not. that team just layed down and got ass r*ped repeatedly last night. pathetic.

literally no one on the eagles played well. not the d-line, not the linebackers, not the secondary, not the o-line, not the backs, not the receivers, not the QBs. akers didn't even need to dress for the game, and landeta sucked too. JJ was outschemed (seattle came out throwing and the birds looked like they were geared for the run). i can't comment on the playcalling because the execution was so bad, who knows if the play would have succeeded or not? just an old fashioned ass kicking.

where do they go from here? i know that lots of people are going to be calling for andy's head. i don't agree with that. don't the last 4 years count for anything? shouldn't we give him the benefit of the doubt? shouldn't he get a chance to work through this? hasn't he earned this by now?

i do think there are going to have to be some hard decisions made in the offseason, however.

- andy needs to give up GM responsibilities at least. by being both coach and GM, he cannot continue to command respect in the locker room while dinging the players on contract negotiations at the same time.

- andy needs to give up playcalling responsibilities, for reasons discussed in detail here previously.

- they have to upgrade the offensive and defensive lines

- they have to get a power back. madden mentioned that andy thinks moats is their best pure runner. boy he certainly didn't look like it last night. he looked hesitant and confused, and you already know that westbrook cannot get you *any* tough yards.

- they have to get don mentally and physically healthy.

my hope is that andy will assess the damage and come up with a plan to correct the problems. my fear is that he has lost control of the team and it will take an upheaval of the roster to effect change. if it's the latter, we're in trouble.

Steve72 doesn't agree with me, but something drastic needs to happen. Drastic would be defined as divesting Andy of GM and or coaching duties...or getting rid of him...usually 4 years would earn you something, however, getting raped like they have this year (they did even when all relatively healthy)has not given him that luxury in my eyes...I look at it like this: Every year I put a lot of time into this team. Just because he has won in the past DOES NOT mean he can win again. It doesn't mean that he can't, though. I don't have that much patience or time to watch Andy's plan again. I saw how he went from a few points from being the best team in the world to being in the basement IN THE SAME YEAR. He would have earned it in my eyes if he won the Super Bowl!!! I think he is the best coach that they've had, but I truly think that it is time for a change. As a Philadelphia fan, I don't have time to wait until teams get better anymore. I want to win.

That being said, it is also inevitable that Manuel will get canned before the end of the season. And, how long do we have to wait until Snider tires of King's mediocre G emming. What about the Flyers. I am so effing mad, why does it always have to be like this in this city?????

I never disagreed with this.

Now this I disagree with. Who's your alternative? Who's going to make this team better than Andy? Give me a name.

I saw how he went from a few points from being the best team in the world to being in the basement IN THE SAME YEAR.

Did you see how he took the worst team in the league to one of the best?

He would have earned it in my eyes if he won the Super Bowl!!! I think he is the best coach that they've had, but I truly think that it is time for a change. As a Philadelphia fan, I don't have time to wait until teams get better anymore. I want to win.

Who gives us a better chance than Andy?

Who?

i agree! don't discount the fat factor. fat people who become skinny people are not happy people.

andy, eat what you want, when you want. you want pork chops at 3 am? i'll bring 'em over. you want to drink gravy as a beverage? i got gallons of it waiting for you.

just give me my team back...

And we should trade McNabb for Philip Rivers! And Comcast should buy the team! Eskin for GM! Malaise forever!

Times like these I'm sad to be a Philly fan. You'd think we'd be a little more adapted to tough times, but when stuff goes alittle South in this town, the freak outs begin.

For all the Andy haters, I invite you to examine the history of this team the years 1965-1995 inclusive.

Why stop at those years? Andy Reid's coached more playoff games than ALL other Eagles coaches combined.

I think right now we're seeing the difference that 5's made to this team over the past several years. When he's healthy, he's among the top 3-4 in the league and gives you 3-4 wins by himself.
