Game 7 Thoughts II

as bad as the eagles played today (and they did play like freaking garbage), they still should have won the game except for the longest game winning field goal in nfl history by a guy who hadn't kicked a field goal longer than 28! yards all stinking season.

- the fumble by avant set the tone for the day on offense, just mistake after mistake.

- the first "at fault" (to borrow a phrase from KC joyner) interceptions by don all season. the first one was don's fault as brown was covered, but reggie needs to come back on that ball and at least break it up! this has been a problem all season and he's not getting better at it. the second was just a great play by barber. ronde understands the birds hot routes and seems to really know how don thinks. barber had man responsibility on avant, but just sat at the line reading don's eye. just a great play. the third pick was similar to the first one, another great play by barber, but lewis needs to come back on that ball and break it up. donnie does deserve some credit for knuckling up and bringing the birds all the way back to take the lead.

- i'm going to vomit

- the second real play mcdougle has ever made (the eli manning hit was the first) and it ends up costing the birds 30 yards and 3 points. egad.

- another fumble, another recovery by the other team

- mccoy continues to play well

- too many drops again today, of course. westbrook, brown, schobel

- considine played well

- our defense stinks right now

- what an f-ing game. i'm still incredulous. that didn't really happen did it?

they will make the playoffs. Just to freaking good. Got to stop making mistakes though, just killing themselves.

Just curious-why do you think they are so good? Aside from Mc5, who chokes in big games, what do they really have going for them? A weapon at RB who is always hurt, a TE who looks like a world beater one minute and a guy from Rutgers the next, a bunch of WR that cannot catch, an O line that can pass block but is hampered with a shitty zone blocking scheme that demands much more speed than they have, a D line that cannot make plays when push comes to shove, a LB corps full of slow guys, and a defensive backfiled that gives up the most big plays in the league. And a stubborn coach who won't adjust. Why does one conclude that these guys really are that good? They can out-scheme people at times, but at the end of the day, you are your record and that says they're .500.

You left out the missed FG opportunity at the end of 1H. Atrocious decision by 5. That's either got to be in the end zone or thrown away.

I am now convinced this team is cursed by bad luck. Last year it was injuries, this year it's lost fumbles (2 of 3 lost officially), the inability of the other team to miss FGs, adn bad penalties at the worst possible time. Bryant's carrer long before today was 50 for crying out loud! Also, while intercepting passes is a skill, returning them for TDs is luck according to FO.

While I disagree with almost all of Guess Who's post, at the end of the day they are what their record is. Very frustrating. They're 3 FGs from 7-0. AAARRRRRGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!

Phil I actually agree with the karma angle you took. I know bad penalties and giving up big plays is only on them, but at some point they need a bounce to go their way. The entire Drew Bledsoe performance vs. them may have been that bounce, but the ridiculous fumble TD vs. the G men, the freak Freak injury in the same game, not one but 2 INT going yard to the same guy today, a kicker hitting his personal best by over 10 yards-these all make me feel snake bit. Toss in a silly case of fumbleitis this year (Westbrook vs. G Men, Buck twice vs. Packers, Avant today) which has never beset them and they really cannot buy a freaking break/ They need the Jags to be the team that played Houston this week, not the team who pummeled the Jets into submission three weeks ago. I hold my breath with every snap expecting something ridiculous to happen and dammit all if the gods don't laugh at me every game. This season is taking years off my life. Can we please just have a well-played game for four quarters? When they do that, they are a good team and they can rout most teams and beat anyone.

McDougle should be fined for his 4 year old tantrum that helped cost the game.

Reid should be whipped in public for not telling them to squib kick it at the end, which would have taken 10 more seconds off the clock

Mc5 should have to clean up his own puke for throwing that last pass in the 1H 3 yards short of the end zone, and not throwing it away if everyone else was covered.

Also, why is Don throwing so many INTs? It seems like he should be throwing it over the outside shoulder, but he zings them underneath and the guy covering just steps up and runs with it. Is it technique, bad call playing?

i think the clock starts when the receiving team touches the ball. squib kicking would have taken less time off the clock. what they needed was better kick coverage.

looked to me like some of it is just great play by the defense, e.g. barber who was freelancing on his first pick, and some of it was mcnabb making throws to guys who didn't have any separation, e.g. the other two picks.
