darren howard

reports are saying the birds signed darren howard to a 6 year deal today. that's a good move and one that is going to be underrated. howard would have been one of the premier free agent on the market a couple of seasons back had new orleans not franchised him.

howard has been a double digit sack guy and plays the run pretty effectively (he plays around 280 i believe). he should be a good complement to kearse and is definitely an upgrade over kalu.

i'm pretty miffed that lecharles didn't sign here, but now it's looking like he really was just using the eagles to get cleveland to up their offer. his family is in cleveland and that's where he wanted to go. still, a big disappointment to the start of free agency. it's offset somewhat by the darren howard signing, but is disappointing nonetheless.

I'm not sure if this was written for him, but if not, then I really like him already. If it was, it just shows he's not using rosenpuke....

Just saw this quote: Said Shawn Barber: "Once you're a part of this organization, a part of this locker room, feel the way this organization is run, feel the way this team plays together ... you can get drawn away by dollars ... there's things that can draw you away. But the majority of guys, if you ask them in their heart, where they prefer to play, where they prefer to be, they'd say back, here."

And that's from a guy who just signed a 1 year deal for about $1.5 million.

that's a great quote.

my hope is that it leads to a superbowl victory sometime soon.

OK, DE and LB. What next?

Anyone think Schoebel will wear green? I like him.

I forgot to mention that the quote not only was from a guy who only got a 1 year deal, but also from a guy who had only played here 1 year. My what a change of pace from 10 years ago when we couldn't entice someone to town even with a mountain of money.

I'm going to try and not get as excited about this year as I did last year. Not sure I can handle the disappiontment again. Like I couldn't care less how crappy the Flyers are right now cause I have nothing emotionally invested in them. Course I'll never get to that point with the Eagles. Or at least I hope to never get to that point . . . I think . . .

Not going to lie, I was bummed about Bentley. However, it seems like he played the Birds well. The Courier Post said that they had a verbal deal with him as late as Saturday morning. Then he signed with the Browns, his home town team. Oh well....the only saving grace for me is going into this off-season Center wasn't a position of great importance in my eyes. My concerns for players has been stated many times. Unfortunately, the hole ledebacle has led me to believe that there is a need to upgrade this position. And they know that, too. Honey Buns is dead to me. I am going to go ahead and stop speculating on what they will do anymore because I have no idea. I like Howard, but what's not to like. I am throwing injuries out the door because it seems like everyone is either hurt or will be hurt so it doesn't matter. Bottom line is he has a good history, he has a decent motor and he's better than what we have. Shawn Barber is better than Bullet. If they sign Schobel that is an upgrade over Lewis and White Guy Dreads. Maybe we'll get lucky and they will throw us a couple of more bones, but I can't speculate anymore. As a matter of fact the only thing that is almost automatic every off-season is that the Skins just throw money around to people that I don't get why. That have like $20 million in guaranteed money to Brandon Lloyd and Randle El. Are you kidding me? It doesn't suprise me that they did not get Anderson, Foster, Randle El, anybody who's an impact on the offense (quite frankly none knocked my socks off)...but I am a little surprised with Bentley. But again, it doesn't appear like he was ever coming here!!!

re: the skins, don't forget the insane money they gave to archuleta and carter -- two guys who came into the league with a lot of hype, but who have both been no better than average in the pros.

archuleta is *horrible* in coverage and takes too many bad angles in run support. he's fast and when he actually hits you he can do some damage, but i've never been impressed with his play.

carter is a situational pass rusher at best. i'm not sure how he even fits into gregg williams' 4-3 as i think carter is best suited to a 3-4 LB role. he is an outside rush guy with no counter move (think kearse only smaller and slower).

SI rumors have Eagles interested in Javon Walker. Yikes. I thought the Eagles were done with Rosenho WR's who are always demanding more $$$$.

If the Eagles don't spend any more $$$ in free agency (seems likely now), they'll probably use the $$$ to extend current players. Who do you think they take care of? Akers only one with contract coming up that I can think of off the top of my head.

i'm pretty sure walker fired rosenhose last season.

Didn't the Eagles extend Akers after or during his injury last year? I bet the Eagles still get some more free agents, albeit not ones that knock our socks off....I am no longer listening to any rumors.

Maybe. I thought he was holding out for a great FA deal for some reason.

Well, it's either listen to rumors or watch basketball (bleacht), the Flyers (ugh), or spring training (where'd that wet light bulb get to?).

OK, don't stone me to death here, but wouldn't Keyshawn be a good deal for the Eagles now that he's available?

you mean Meshawn? it would be the same problems as with T.O., but not as good a WR. there's no way Reid would buy into that.

I think Meshawn's attitude was pounded down a bit in Dallas by the big tuna. You're probably right, that Reid would never do it, just thinking that he 34, and isn't going to get the kind of money that's out there.I don't know, maybe I just need some more caffeine...

Iggles signed Jabbar Gaffney yesterday. He could be good if he's catching passes from a QB who doesn't have his ass in the dirt every play.

Still need some o-line help in front of 5 though. Looks like Runyon might end up with a vet minimum deal considerin he's getting no looks elsewhere. Also, Moulds might be available this summer (Bills apparently sitting on him so he misses a big payday).

of course Runyun didn't get any looks. He was on an island on vacation.

Terry Bradshaw was on WMMR this morning and said that he's not sure ANYONE is interested in T.O. That just makes me so happy. Even if he does get signed, I doubt it'll be anywhere near what he wants...
